Drill, Baby, Drill! Not the Answer

Every time the US price of gasoline heads north, we get the same refrain.

The extra amount of oil that would be produced by the US is teeny-tiny compared with what is world actually consumes.

It would help out with the job scene, but gas prices not so much.

“More production from anywhere would tend to lower prices,” said Adam Sieminski, chief energy economist at Deutsche Bank. “But the amount that we’re talking about domestically, it wouldn’t move gas prices from $4 a gallon to $3.”

So, what is a mother to do anyway?

Obama Task Force on Gouging Us on Gas

President Obama has directed has directed Atty. Gen. Eric Holder to probe reports of price gouging last month. Now he goes a little further.

Now, he said, “we’re going a step further,” setting up the team “to root out any cases of fraud or manipulation in the oil markets that might affect gas prices – and that includes the role of traders and speculators.”

We will just have to see how that works out. After all, we need traders and I guess speculators too, or we wouldn’t have a market at all, would we?

Obama Blames Speculators for High Oil Prices

Mr. Obama blames speculators for driving oil prices higher and picking the pockets of American consumer. There is more than enough oil in the world markets to meet demand.

I know that if you’ve got a limited budget and you just watch that hard-earned money going away to oil companies that will once again probably make record profits this quarter, it’s pretty frustrating,” he said.

U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu said on Tuesday he was concerned that rising crude oil and gasoline prices could undermine U.S. economic recovery

The US government is going to investigate unfair speculation.

Have at it, boys!
