The National Petroleum Council met on July 18, and approved a report entitled Facing the Hard Truths About Energy

No, the world is not running out of energy resources, but here are the hard truths the US and the world have to face about energy:

1. Coal, oil, and natural gas will still be indispensable.

2. There are risks to expansion in oil and gas production from historical sources.

3. To mitigate these risks, expansion of all energy sources will be required.

4. Energy Independence should not be confused with strengthening energy security.

5. The US energy workforce must be replenished and trained.

6. Policies aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions will alter the energy mix and increase energy related costs.
